2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic Ante Post Part 2

Expect to see Game On Dude one more time this year, likely during the opening weekend at Santa Anita which happens on the final weekend in September. If he pulls off another resounding victory there (and many are suspecting that he might) you can bank on his price dropping even lower, perhaps to a 2/1 ante post margin.

While Game On Dude is widely considered to be the undisputed best older dirt horse in America, there are still plenty of challengers looking likely to step up here. Cross Traffic has been steadily building up his portfolio of quality victories and many are expecting him, Fort Larned and America’s current queen of racing Royal Delta to be the main challengers as we get closer to post time.

Both Cross Traffic and Royal Delta trade at 8/1 prices while Fort Larned is commanding a 10/1 listing at the moment. Cross Traffic is a late-developing colt by Unbridled’s Song who only debuted this past January when he was 4. He was able to conquer his maiden race at the first time of asking before blowing apart an allowance contest at Gulfstream and then finishing second in back-to-back races at Belmont in the Westchester Stakes and the Met.

He really arrived when he conquered the Whitney Invitational with a frontrunning trip against some of America’s best older horses. While Successful Dan was able to acquit himself well by tracking at the back and going six wide to come up second, Cross Traffic (with John Velasquez up) really showed his quality that day to capture his first Grade 1 contest.

Fort Larned did himself no favours with a lackluster performance and will be disappointed that he was forced to concede weight to the field.
