2013 Breeders’ Cup Friday Betting Preview Part 2
- By A.J. This horse can definitely handle the distance and long distance dirt races are relatively commonplace down there so the horse boasts both the pedigree and the proven ability to win over the distance and the surface.

Traditionally in American racing, you always respect South American shippers during the winter months as they are generally fresh and making their seasonal debuts. It should also be noted that Ever Rider will not receive Lasix.
As it currently stands, punters will find Ever Rider listed as the ante post favourite with pretty much every major bookmaker with pricing around a general 7/2.
The other to watch out for here is Commander - who ships down from Hastings in Vancouver. The local title holder ran in this race last year and was more or less eased towards the finish, dead last and 44 lengths behind. He didn’t break well or run his race that day but has been in fine form running on a lesser track and connections wouldn’t ship if they didn’t think they would have a shot at winning it this time.
The horse is likely to get Mario Gutierrez once again and that’s definitely a bonus as Gutierrez has made himself one of the go-to jockeys on the Southern California circuit and is usually first call for anybody racing in the Pacific Northwest as well as being the preferred jock for all of Paul Reddam’s mounts.
Look for Commander around 7/1 ante post but he could be higher on the day depending on how the odds look.
West Point Thoroughbreds also saddle up Suns Out Guns Out for this race and he looks good coming in fresh off a victory at Parx. While this is a significant step up in quality, it remains one of the most wide open races of the day and his 12/1 ante post price could be a factor for some.
