2013 Champion Stakes Betting Preview Part 1
- By A.J. Ryder on September 16, 2013 22:21 GMTThe Champion Stakes is looking more and more likely to be a race to remember as the ante post wagering begins to become a lot clearer by the day. There are still plenty of interesting betting opportunities developing and some of the top flat runners on the planet will be lining up in this one - especially those that are opting out of the Arc or the Breeders’ Cup in California.

The main contenders for the Champion Stakes are both prominently listed for spots in key races in the Breeders’ Cup, specifically and it is complicating the ante post market as we move forward.
As it currently stands, most bookmakers are listing The Fugue as the the lowest-priced selection for the showpiece at Ascot on the 19th of October. The problem with that is it appears as though her connections are preferring to opt for the Breeders’ Cup once again.
She had a tough go of it at Santa Anita last time when she mustered up a third place finish in a race she probably should have won if it was to be decided on pure class alone. Surely to be a major draw and a feather in the cap of the Breeders’ Cup itself, The Fugue will add a real element of spice to the filly and mare’s turf.
You’ll notice that The Fugue remains at around 3/1 or 4/1 to win the Champions Stakes with a wide swath of bookmakers but her price on the exchange to win the race trades at 20.0. That tells you everything you need to know.
It looks as though we’ll be seeing a number of books amend their odds early this week once everybody’s weekend hangovers clear up.
