Sam Waley-Cohen likely had his last chance aboard Long Run in this year’s King George and he answered all of his critics with aplomb. The neck victory over Captain Chris put him right back in the mix for the Gold Cup ante post market and many are likely surprised that he’s not the overall favourite.

Bookies continue to float prices on others much shorter than Long Run - he can be had around 7/1 with most major bookmakers.
With no other races really on his schedule (you don’t expect him to take the Denman Chase option again this year) he will likely sit and wait in training for his shot at securing another Gold Cup and setting himself up for a run at steeplechasing immortality.
Silviniaco Conti is emerging as a very competitive option for the 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup and he’s defeated Long Run earlier this season at Haydock, as well as capturing a Grade 2 contest at Wetherby by a hefty 11 length margin. The six-year-old Paul Nicholls chaser is the winningest horse of the season so far with a solid amount of cash banked in his two big wins.
He looked very visually impressive when he conquered the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park - and the comment line “in command final 75 yds” speaks volumes. Many expect him to move forward in this race and that’s why he floats at the same price as Long Run with 7/1 available at most bookmakers and a few pricing him at 6s.
Tidal Bay is getting some attention for this one as well and he’s looking quality after his score in the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown. He beat out First Lieutenant by a head when sent off at 9/2. It will be interesting to see if Ruby Walsh takes the mount on him and, if he commits to the race, you can count on his odds taking a tumble from their current listing of 10/1.
