It’s a very big day for Long Run and you couldn’t ask for a bigger stage from the talented jumper. Nicky Henderson has retained the services of Sam Waley-Cohen once again and they will really need to pull out all the stops if they want to solidify the fact that Long Run wasn’t just a one-hit wonder.
There are some serious challengers here, in particular Bobs Worth and Silviniaco Conti. Bobs Worth has only been sent out once this year and his connections have had him pointed towards the Gold Cup for quite some time.
He conquered the RSA Chase last year at Cheltenham and then kicked things off in a very big way by capturing the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on December 1st for his seasonal debut. Nicky Henderson trains this one as well and he boasts a high-quality record in virtually all rules races.
Bobs Worth really looks to be an out-and-out Cheltenham specialist and that’s likely why he’s been dominating the ante post market since he took the Hennessy. There is a lot to like about him and there are no questions over his ability to get the distance.
The only real turn-off about Bobs Worth is the fact that his price is just a bit short considering the type of competition that he’s running against. 5/2 is likely just a bit too short for some punters.
Silviniaco Conti looks to be a really outstanding seven-year-old and he’s had a real season to write home about. He skipped Cheltenham last year but did capture the Mildmay Novices chase at Aintree. He is 3/3 this year including his defeat of Long Run in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.
