The task of handicapping this race is made even more difficult when one considers the fact that several of them are co-entered in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes, which runs just before the Dewhurst and will have two-year-olds going 6f instead of the 7f they will have to tackle in the Dewhurst.
Widely considered to be one of the premier late-season flat preps for juveniles, you can always count on the top yards and the top trainers having at least one contender in the mix. If your name is Aidan O’Brien, you’ve likely got eight of the fourteen runners to make it past the declaration stage.
All runners will line up at 9-1 and there is only one real undefeated contender who remains in the mix and that is the Coolmore runner Great White Eagle, by Elusive Quality, he captured a Group 3 contest at the Curragh in his second race after breaking his maiden at Naas back in early August.
The colt with the highest official rating is Godolphin’s Outstrip, who is by Exceed And Excel out of an El Prado mare. He broke his maiden at Newmarket back in June and then suffered a tough beat by a mere quarter-length to Toormore in the Group 2 Veuve Cliquot Vintage Stakes at Goodwood’s July Meeting.
He then followed that up with a Group 2 win at Doncaster when he captured the Group 2 Champagne Stakes. It should be noted, however, that he was only up against a field of four that day.
