With the Cheltenham Festival now officially behind us we are gearing up for the 2013 Grand National and beginning to take a serious look at the toughest puzzle that jumps racing has to offer. The annual event certainly has its critics but the fact remains that everybody and their gran will have a punt on this year and there is really no genuine prohibitive favourite with about three or four horses all sort of hovering around the same price.

It should be noted, however, that several bookmakers do have the talented On His Own listed at single digits - currently the only contender with that distinction. The Willy Mullins gelding has only had one outing this year - a Grade 2 score at Naas against a field of six. He had put together a fairly solid Grand National effort last year only to fall at Beecher’s second time around.
The son of Presenting will do his best to stay up or near the pace as that’s how he tends to run his best races. Every bet in the National is a total crapshoot as sometimes your selection will do everything right and still wind up falling or being brought down.
Prince De Beauchene has been out twice so far this year - once at Limerick in a fairly easy start to his campaign and then a tough beat at Fairyhouse in a Grade 2 effort a few weeks ago. He finished second from six to Roi Du Mee, despite being sent off at an 8/11 price tag.
This will be his first crack at the National and it should be noted that he won at Aintree back in 2011 against a fairly solid listed group. Expect him to kick on here and really try to make a statement Paul Townend should get the nod for the ride here and he represents a good entry for the Mullins yard.
