2013 Grand National Market Movers Part 1

There has been plenty of swings in the betting markets over the past year as punters have done their best to extract as much value as possible from the 2013 Grand National ante post market. As we get closer and closer to the build-up for the race itself and the start of the Aintree National meeting this week there has been even more movement - especially amongst the leading fancies.

The current choice, On His Own, has been trimmed down to 7/1 with most major bookmakers after floating at a price of around 8/1 for the past few weeks, he’s only been out once so far this year but he made short work of his company there so many punters are especially confident in his ability to tackle the Grand National. Connections are confident and he’s one of the few coming in here off just a solitary run during the 2012/2013 National Hunt season.

The second-place contender, Seabass, has been knocking on the door in his other races and has been the source of a tremendous amount of support from a number of different places. He has been taken out to 10/1 recently after being hammered down to 9/1. The price raise coincided with a drop in odds for On His Own. The late-breaking money seems to be favouring On His Own over Seabass but he clearly has his support.

Cappa Bleu is a popular selection after two second-place finishes in both of his efforts this season. Truly a there-or-thereabouts type he usually doesn’t find the line first but is nearly always in the reckoning. He’s seen his price stay relatively consistent at a 12/1 shot over the past few months and has been active in the place markets as well.

His National will mostly about staying on his feet throughout the contest and actually finishing the race. He will always be in the mix, you reckon, but will likely be looking to capitalize on the mistakes of others as opposed to putting together an outline barn-storming run.
