While he may be out of the 2000 Guineas trail, Kingsbarns remains firmly pointed towards the Epsom Derby after being ruled out of the first classic of the year thanks to a foot infection.

Aidan O’Brien spoke to the media today and declared that the promising colt is back on the gallops cantering around and will be expected to contest a Derby trial, but won’t be ready for the May 4 showpiece.
Last year’s Racing Post Trophy winner has been heavily-hyped throughout the build-up to this year’s flat season and many are expecting him to build up some serious steam as he gets closer to the June Derby.
As it currently stands, punters will be able to back Kingsbarns at a quality price of 6/1 ante post with only the highly-touted maiden winner Telescope trading at a price nearing his. Several books have Telescope as low as 11/2 and looming large for Highclere Thoroughbred Racing’s top contender.
Lightly-raced Dundalk winner Mars is another O’Brien trainee taking some money and he’s priced at 7/1 despite just the solitary score under his belt. He romped home by nearly five lengths after being sent off at 4/7. Mars is trading at 12/1 for Guineas glory.
Battle Of Marengo, another O’Brien trainee, recently captured the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown - the first official Derby trial - and his price has been trimmed to 10/1 by most major bookmakers.
Godolphin’s undefeated Dawn Approach, who has formed a formidable partnership with Kevin Manning, has been taken into even money by most ante post books as he seeks 2000 Guineas glory in the absence of Kingsbarns. The multiple Group 1 winner captured the Dewhurst and is pointed at the Guineas as his first effort of the season.
Cristofo Colombo is the closest contender to Dawn Approach and he can be backed at a much longer price of 7/1. Other notables include George Vancouver at 16/1 and Dundonnell at 14/1.
