2013 Hong Kong Sprint Betting Preview

The short distance classic contest for the upcoming Hong Kong International Weekend boasts some extremely recognizable names from the UK and Europe and none other than the Power tandem of Sole Power and Slade Power who are both very much in the mix for this contest with most major bookmakers pricing them right alongside each other with a solid price of 13/1 and 14/1.

Those odds may look like they are mediocre fancies at best but the market is so deep for this race its a lot more like them being 4th or 5th favourites. They have every chance here and you reckon there will be more than a few wagers based around an all-power exacta.

Lord Kanaloa is the current preferred shout but even the outright ante post betting choice is only securing a 13/8 price tag and then the odds take a fairly large jump to the prominent local sprinter Lucky Nine. You can back Lucky Nine at an interesting price of 11/2 in Europe and he could prove to be a justifiable second favourite here.

There is a lot to like about some of these sprinters and their ability to get the job done when it really matters is always a positive thing. Some seriously formful contenders come into this race and with so much foreign form boasting so many victories, you have to go with some of the invaders for this race even though it seems to contain a fair amount of local contenders.

Charles The Great is an 8/1 shot with most major bookmakers while Sterling City can be backed at a 9/1 listing. Following the aforementioned Power horses, we then get to Cerise Cherry (which translates to Cherry Cherry) alongside a pack of solid contenders at 20/1. They include Eagle Regiment, Jwala and the appropriately named Frederick Engels, who ships over from Europe but seems a horse that should relish a run this close to Communist China.

Other contenders in the mix include Time After Time at 33s, Joy and Fun at 50s, Go Baby Go (the name of an old American racehorse advertising campaign) at 66s and Rich Tapestry (which can surely be bought in many of the local night markets at an 80/1 price tag.
