2013 Investec Derby Betting Tips Part 2
- By A.J. There is a lot to like about his chances and he put away his challengers in the Guineas with real panache.

The fact remains that Dawn Approach used the Guineas as his seasonal debut and will be much more improved in his second effort off a lengthy freshening after scoring the Dewhurst back in October. He demonstrated the ability to turn around back to back Group 1’s within less than a month’s time when he took the Dewhurst as he had captured the Vincent O’Brien stakes at the Curragh 28 days prior.
Dawn Approach really proved that he had what it takes for genuine success when making an impression at Royal Ascot last year, taking the Group 2 Coventry Stakes by three quarters of a length against a stellar field of 22 entries.
There are only a few genuine challengers remaining with relatively plausible prices to take the race out of Dawn Approach’s grasp and it looks to be a few of his previously vanquished foes aren’t getting much play from the punters. One of the only real standouts is the Coolmore contender Battle of Marengo who was last seen scoring at an ultra slim 2/13 Derby trial Stakes at Leopardstown.
He’s only lost one race and that was his maiden at Leopardstown, finishing third out of a solid field of 15, he came back about two weeks later and conquered a similar contest at Gowran Park and has been sent off as the odds-on betting favourite in every single race since that point.
