Eleven-year-old veteran Oiseau De Nuit will line up for Colin Tizzard and he’s likely to get plenty of backing from the punters - especially since his score in the Grade 3 Red Rum Chase at Aintree last year will still be living long in the memory. While there is an additional half-mile to contend with here, it’s clear that connections think he’s more than capable of tackling the extra distance.

Philip Hobbs Wishfull Thinking is the premier contender in this race and he’s also the highest rated. He’s a multiple Graded winner but ran most of his best races when he was back on the novice chase circuit in 2011 - capturing a second place at the Cheltenham Festival and then winning the Manifesto Novices’ Chase by a whopping 10 length margin over Medermit.
The move up to 2m4f also shows that connections are looking to steer clear of the electric Sprinter Sacre, who looks likely to stay at 2m and will dominate that circuit for years to come if he remains in the form he’s in right now.
Paul Nicholls is usually represented in races like this one and he’s opted to deploy an Aintree specialist in Edgardo Sol - a talented six-year-old who hasn’t won since he captured the 2012 Red Rum Handicap Chase last year. Beating out Astracad by a smashing thirteen lengths you do have to give him a look here as he gets back on a course that he has relished in the past.
He also has a 2011 score at Aintree to his credit as well when he took a limited novice handicap chase by a nose over the Cockney Mackem. While he is a Grade 3 winner, they are looking for prize money here and you expect him to be in the reckoning at least as Nicholls always has his first-timers ready to fire - especially in races like the Old Roan Chase.
