2013 Racing Post Trophy Betting Tips Part
- By A.J. Ryder on October 21, 2013 21:02 GMTRoger Varian’s Kingston Hill is from the leading edge of the talented crop of Mastercraftsman colts that have hit the track this season. While he may not be quite as accomplished as the respected Toormore, he is still a Group level winner having captured the Group 3 Autumn Stakes at Newmarket last week. While he is certainly looking likely to be turned out quickly (just two weeks time in between races), you get the feeling that both connections and the punting public think he has more than a good chance here as he’s now been bet down to a 3/1 margin.

He is proven at a mile thanks to that last victory and he looks like he has a bit less to prove in that department than some of the others. You get the feeling that the real plan for him is much more focused on the Derby than it is on the 2000 Guineas as he has the type of conformation that indicates he will be more talented as he grows into himself a bit more over his winter freshening.
While he doesn’t boast the big wins of Toormore, Roger Varian knows how to get juveniles to fire sharp at this time of year and he should have Andrea Atzeni booked for the trip once again.
Aidan O’Brien takes a calculated gamble here with Century, a talented son of Montjeu as they enter the Racing Post Trophy off nothing more than a maiden victory at the Curragh. He toppled an impressive field of 15 that day and was sent off at an 11/4 price tag. He outran the odds with a 1.5 length score that really didn’t involve him flashing all of his quality. That comfortable victory was exacerbated by the fact that Joseph really didn’t have to get into him too much and he showed all the credibility necessary to be taken seriously at the mile distance.
Obviously there are big plans for this colt and they will be pointing him towards the Classic races next year if he’s fit. Considering the fact that it’s only his second race in his career, even hitting the board here would be considered a solid outing for him as his best distance is likely to be the 1m4f.
Despite that fact, the punters are out in full force for this lightly-raced colt and they have backed him down to a 7/2 margin in the ante post book with most major European bookmakers.
