2013 Racing Post Trophy Betting Tips Part 1
- By A.J. Ryder on October 21, 2013 21:01 GMTThe big cap off to the British flat racing season just happened with the Champions Day races at Ascot last Saturday but now attention turns to the last big chapter of the 2013 story - the Racing Post Trophy. Boasting a 1m distance that is supposedly a better judge of 2000 Guineas/Epsom Derby candidacy next year than any of the other 2yo Group 1’s, there is a talented lineup of contenders set to battle it out at Doncaster this weekend.

Toormore is going into it as the betting favourite and the undefeated Richard Hannon-trained runner will be looking for his fourth score on the bounce and his second Group 1 victory to compliment the Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes at the Curragh about a month ago.
Prior to that, he captured the Group 2 Veuve Cliquot Vintage Stakes. He had won his maiden at Leicester over a tough field of 12 when sent off as the joint 5/2 favourite. While he doesn’t boast one of those pedigrees that jumps right out at you and screams “Classic Champion”, it should be noted that his dame (Danetime Out) just sold a yearling colt for over 200,000 Guineas.
One of the more impressive things about Toormore is the fact that he has won all three of his previous races in completely different styles. His latest score was captured via a frontrunning trip as Richard Hughes immediately sent him to the lead and he made all of the 7f his own that day. The Group 2 score involved him being held up in midfield and coming on later in the race. His maiden win was derived from a tracking trip.
That sort of versatility shows experience and confidence beyond the horses’ years. Expect this talented two-year-old to justify every part of his slim 9/4 price tag.
