2013 Racing Post Trophy Betting Tips Part 3
- By A.J. Ryder on October 21, 2013 21:04 GMTSheikh Majid Bin Mohammed al Maktoum boasts the fourth place contender here and he enters with a more mixed record than most. Somewhat, by Dynaformer out of a Royal Academy mare, enters off a defeat to Berkshire in the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. He was only beaten by a quarter of a length despite being sent off as the 11/8 joint favourite. Prior to that he took a listed score at Newbury.

He acquitted himself well in defeat when losing that last race and he was perhaps sent to the front a bit early. He deployed a winning 7f trip in a 1m race and that’s likely why he was pipped late on when things really got down to business in the final furlong of the race.
He is currently considered to be a 6/1 shout and could drift somewhat on the day as the other contenders seem to hold a bit more promise with victories at the requisite distance.
Godolphin saddle Pinzolo for this one and they have taken their time with him before they vaulted him into the Group level contests. He is undefeated in two starts - one of which was a Newmarket maiden back in mid-August when he beat out a field of 8 when sent off an impressive 10/1 price tag. Following that, he toppled the respected Red Galileo at Newbury in a Class 2 contest.
Though that last victory was only by a head, he had a lot of traffic trouble in the final portions of the race and Mickael Barzalona was able to coax a terrific performance from him that showed more versatility and confidence than you would expect from a horse in only his second race.
You also have to respect that he is by German sire Monsun who has had an excellent couple of years with top offspring capturing Group level races across the globe. Punters will find Pinzolo with Barzalona already booked trading at a solid 7/1 listing.
