2013 Shadwell Fillies Mile Betting Preview Part 1
- By A.J. Ryder on September 25, 2013 17:25 GMTThe widely-anticipated Shadwell Fillies Mile is one of the best fixtures on the Newmarket card this weekend. This top class Group 1 for two-year-old fillies is always considered to be a key race for the Qipco 1000 Guineas the following year. There is a real opportunity here for Rizeena to stake her claim on 2014 Guineas glory. With a solid record where she has never finished off the board except for her maiden effort, she also boasts a 120 rating and is taking plenty of money from the punters in the build-up to the race.

The ante post market for the Shadwell Fillies Mile is showing Rizeena at a slim 5/4 three days away from the contest. With a relatively slim field an an extremely highly-rated filly lined up for this contest, it’s really not that surprising that Rizeena trades at such a short price tag.
Rizeena is owned by Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum and is trained by Clive Brittain. The two-year-old Daughter of Iffraaj is a Group 2 and Group 1 winner after debuting back in mid-April. She has already had seven contests to her credit and she has won four of them.
Even her worst performance to date - a 5/17 at Newmarket in her maiden race - saw her only finish 2 lengths back when sent off at a 16/1 price with an apprentice rider in the irons.
She shipped to Deauville for the Group 1 Darley Prix Mornay and was able to muster up a third place performance behind No Nay Never when she was sent off at 6/1. She demonstrated some real quality to come on well late on in the race and she clearly enjoyed the stretch out in distance when she got a full 7f to tackle in the next race - the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. A sharp 9/2 selection on the day, she toppled the respected Aidan O’Brien-trained Tapestry and Kiyoshi, who came out at 13/8 early on in this one.
Getting the full mile to deal with is certainly within her realm of expertise and it’s completely understandable why she’s taking so much money at this point.
