2013 Shadwell Fillies Mile Betting Preview Part 2

Godolphin are saddling an impressive-looking daughter of their stallion Shamardal in this one and she’s commanding the second place in the ante post market. Currently trading at a 3/1 listing, she looks likely to get Silbestre De Sousa once again and the pair combined to score in a Group 2 at Doncaster last time out.

Sent off on the day at an 11/10 price, she earned a 109 rating after deploying an impressive tracking trip where she indicated that top gear wasn’t really required. The word “readily” stands prominently at the end of her running line. This exciting filly clearly has room to move forward and the 3/1 price for the fillies mile is sure to attract a few punters trying to beat out Rizeena.

Godolphin’s other entry is the lightly-raced Sound Reflection, another home-bred filly by their American-based stallion Street Cry. Mickael Barzalona is booked for the trip and she has captured both of her races so far with relative ease - sent off as the betting favourite each time. While she takes the most dramatic step up in quality among the majority of the serious contenders, you reckon that Godolphin feels she is more than up to the challenge.

Barzalona is a wily rider and he deployed an excellent ride last time to keep her in control of the race right up until the finish - that’s how you want an 8/15 favourite to win a race. Sound Reflection is a general 13/2 among most bookmakers - trading at the same price as Aidan O’Brien’s filly Wonderfully.

The two-year-old by Galileo finished a tame sixth of seven behind Rizeena in their last race at the Curragh, she was able to capture the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown. It should be noted that there are still questions about her ability to consistently handle this distance as they were catching up to her quite dramatically at the end of that Group 3 contest.
