- By A.J. The ante post market reads like a real punters dream as a number of talented runners compete for the favourites position with plenty of solid price tags out there for solid contenders with lots of room to move forward here.

The St Leger is one of the trickiest races to win as it comes at a distance that many of these contenders are not 100% adept at already. With a quirky distance to navigate and a tough Doncaster course offering up a real challenge as we get into the fall months, this one has been known to produce some really interesting results over the years.
As it currently stands, punters will find a tight battle between the likes of Excess Knowledge, Galileo Rock and Leading Light as they all battle it out for the position of ante post favourite.
All of these contenders are being floated right now at a price of 5/1 with little to move the markets between now and then unless we start to see some late withdrawals. The interesting aspect to the St Leger is the fact that many of the horses were pointed at this classic for quite some time so a lot of them don’t make a run in August. Many of them spend the entire season gearing up for this contest and you can expect a few talented runners to move forward significantly in this race as they were never really pushed 100% up to that point.
Excess Knowledge is the Juddmonte entry and he’s still just a maiden winners having scored in a 3K effort at Sandown back in August of last year. He’s only actually been on track twice so far this season and neither effort was a winning one though he was always in the mix.
