2013 Sussex Stakes Betting Tips Part 1
- By A.J. Ryder on July 29, 2013 16:01 GMTWhile we may have a limited field set up for the 2013 iteration of the Qipco Sussex Stakes, there will be no shortage of quality on display during Wednesday’s race. There is a lot to like about this contest and the main story line heading into this one is the battle between Dawn Approach and Toronado - they have tangled twice this year with Dawn Approach getting the better of Toronado each time.

With both contenders priced relatively short for this one - Dawn Approach is 11/10 while Toronado is a slim 6/4 - some punters may want to put their bets elsewhere as they look to find a bit of extra value.
While Dawn Approach only has one blemish on his career record - a dismal effort in the Epsom Derby when he was beaten 33 lengths to finish last despite going off as the 5/4 favourite - the margin was extremely tight last time and it looks like Toronado may be bankable as they navigate the course at Goodwood.
There is some variance between the Newmarket races they have met up with previously so the few extra variables here may make the difference for those looking to go against Dawn Approach.
Gregorian looks to be the interesting outsider with a price hovering around 25/1 at the moment. The winner of the Diomed Stakes definitely has some claims here and he has been out on track many times more than the other contenders in this one. While he had tangled at Group 1 level before, he is still yet to make the breakthrough at the highest level though he has hit the board in a pair of Group 1 efforts.
His only attempt at Goodwood ranks as one of his worst races as he finished 14th - dead last - in a Group 3 contest at Goodwood last year. That loss came after a relatively credible second-place finish at Chantilly so that does take the gloss off of his place finish at Ascot last time out.
