2014 Arc De Triomphe Betting Preview Pt 1
- By A.J. Ryder on September 30, 2014 18:22 GMTWe are just a few days away from the kick-off of Europe’s biggest flat race and the de facto finale of the flat season, at least prior to Champions Day. We have had a few withdrawals as we have approached the latest declaration stage and there is still a lot of interesting contenders who are very much still in the mix for the 2014 Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris.

The betting favourite right now is the well-respected Sea The Stars filly Taghrooda, who would be looking to be the second 3yo female in a row to win this race after Treve pulled it off last year.
At the moment, punters will find Taghrooda available at an enticing 9/2 in this 20 horse field and the John Gosden-trained contender has only lost a single race this year - her last one - when she was beaten half a length by Tapestry in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks. She was in command with 2f left but was just beaten on the day, despite being sent off an extremely short 1/5 price tag.
Paul Hanagan will return for this one and she looks to have the support from punters far and wide as their belief in her has clearly not been shaken yet to this point despite the loss last time out. Her victory in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot back in late July was the real crowning achievement here - despite being an Oaks winner at Epsom - as she proved her ability to dispose of older male contenders and dominating them by a full three length margin.
Next up is the well-respected Ectot, who runs for Al Shaqab racing - the owners of last years winner Treve. The three-year-old colt has been campaigned exclusively in France and, though his last two victories came by very narrow margins, there is still plenty of confidence in his ability to actually get the job done on the day. He came second in his first ever race but it has been nothing but victories then.
