2014 Arc De Triomphe Betting Preview Pt 3
- By A.J. If you look at his record - he has had a wide variety of different jockeys and has been able to win with a number of different jocks in the irons.

Each year for the Arc it seems as though we have an undefeated contender attracting plenty of outside bets and this time around it’s going to be Avenir Certain - a 3yo filly by Le Havre out of a Mark of Esteem mare. She conquered Le Prix De Parisiens at Longchamp back in mid-May and looked good doing it - delivering for punters at a very solid 14/1 price tag.
Prior to that she has been run as the favourite in some smaller contests at Chantilly and then went on to take down the big money Prix De Diane Longines at a solid 9/2 price tag. The most recent score came at Deauville when she captured a Group 2 race when sent off at a 3/5 margin - a victory that was much better than the 1.5 length margin might appear to be on paper.
Gregory Benoist has already declared that he will ride another contender in the race so it will be interesting to see whether that undefeated record can be maintained here once again as she heads into her most difficult test by far.
Another Japanese contender looks like she’ll be taking some serious money here as well with Harp Star looming as a very interesting selection and certain to get preferred jock Yuga Kawada up for this one. It will be her first start since late August and she looms large as a multiple Group 1 winner in her native Japan.
Trained by popular conditioner Hiroyoshi Matsuda, the most recent victory was the Sapporo Kinen over Gold Ship when sent off at a very solid 27/10 price tag.
