2014 Breeders Cup Ante Post Betting Tips

The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the de facto Superbowl of American racing and is open to both male and female horses 3yo+ going 1m2f on the dirt surface at Santa Anita Park. Last year’s contest was a thrilling one where we saw Mucho Macho Man storm home to victory while holding off game challenges from Will Take Charge and European shipper Declaration of War.
The older handicap division in America has been turned a bit upside down as of late with several top contenders like Game On Dude not quite commanding the type of respect they have seen in recent years and a new generation of stars looks set to take the lead - not the least of them is Palace Malice.
At the moment Palace Malice is considered to be the outright favourite to win the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic with European bookmakers offering him up at a 4/1 price tag ante post - a listing he probably won’t be much higher than on race-day itself. It’s more a statement than an actual coherent wager at the moment but you do have to wonder whether he will be able to pick up enough quality races at Saratoga or Belmont this year to justify that type of short-priced favourites position.
Mucho Macho Man is trading at a 7.0 price tag and only looks good if he can improve on his unimpressive performance when kicking off on debut. There are plenty of question marks out there about his lack of timed works and even an entry for his next race. It’s worth waiting on Mucho Macho Man right now.
California Chrome is a much better option at 7.0 and he is likely to point towards the Classic. His controversial owners continue to find themselves in the racing headlines for all the wrong reasons but their horse trades at a competitive price for a reason.
Game On Dude is available at 13.0 after a disappointing run two weeks ago while Will Take Charge is much better priced at 11.0 all things considered. Tonalist is still part of the equation and can be backed at 13.0 while returning hotshot Shared Belief, who missed the Triple Crown season but has roared back into contention, is a tidy 11.0 for Classic glory.
