2014 Cesarewitch Betting Preview PT 2

David Simcock will be saddling Ray Ward - a four-year-old son of Galileo for this race and, while he hasn’t really won in quite a while (since May of 2014), he appears to be popular for this one and still represents a decent each-way selection as he is currently trading at a competitive 11/1 price tag.

He has an advantage here because he often handles different types of trips as he can be forwardly placed or is also content to simply lope along at the back and make one big run at the finish. Watch out for him but be sure to keep your eyes on the betting markets to see if the money is moving towards him or away as he looks like an each-way or a place selection as opposed to an outright win wager. He is also fairly well-weighted for this one and shouldn’t struggle to carry.

Nearly Caught is another interesting contender and Hughie Morrison’s charge will be trading at around 13/1 for the Cesarewitch. He’s another that hasn’t won a race in a while but looks fairly well-placed here and is also taking a step down in class as he’s been competing in some very high-quality races over the past year or two that he’s been competing in handicap company in the UK.

Big Easy, an interesting German-bred contender who will be lining up for Philip Hobbs, comes in off a decent second-place effort at Newmarket when he was only bested by a quarter of a length by See and Be Seen. He had Tom Queally up that day and it’s a good reference and that’s about as close to a course ands distance victory as you are likely to get. His last victory, like many currently entered in the 2014 Cesarewitch, came a while ago and that was in a handicap hurdle contest at Cheltenham when he bested a tricky group of 17 contenders in a Class 2 effort.

Look for Big Eays trading firmly in each-way territory at a 15/1 margin.
