2014 Coral Hurdle Betting Preview PT 2

One thing to remember is the veritable slew of short-priced contenders who have plenty of expectations on them this year who have failed to get off the mark on their seasonal debuts. Even many of the big winners from festival time last year were unable to get the better of their opposition first time out this year.

For those who are looking to beat Faugheen here or even make a push for a solid each-way wager, your eyes are probably steering towards the likes of Melodic Rendezvous who now looks likely to head towards this one despite being co-entered towards a smaller contest. He’s also making his seasonal debut and didn’t exactly end last season on the best of notes but has plenty of talent up his sleeve and has a running style that will contrast nicely with Faugheen so there is all to play for here for him.

He’s trading as low as 5/1 at the moment.

Lac Fontana is the other one to look at here and the Paul Nicholls charge has been off since last May when he finished fourth to Vautour at Punchestown. One of the few horses who contested the Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National festival and Punchestown, he has plenty of interesting options here.

Right now, you’ll find Lac Fontana trading at around 5/1 but there are several books currently offering him up at a 6/1 margin and it will be especially interesting to see where his odds wind up on the day.

Blue Fashion is another one trading at a single digit margin and he is top price 8/1. Nicky Henderson’s contender is still very much an emerging hurdler who has only raced on UK soil a single time - finishing second this season in a handicap hurdle at Haydock when sent off at a 9/1 margin. That’s actually a pretty solid reference and not too much is really known about this horse so far.

He only wound up losing by a two length margin and though this is a significant step up in trip, he still has every chance here and could be a bit of an each-way squeak.
