2014 July Cup Betting Tips and Preview Pt 2
- By A.J. Ryder on June 30, 2014 03:18 GMTA disappointing run at Meydan in the Dubai Duty Free (where she was 11th from 13 - losing to Japanese sensation Just A Way) is likely the reason why she went off at such a nice price at Royal Ascot and many will expect her to come back nicely here as she tends to run well when turned out again quickly.

Three-year-old winner of the 2000 Guineas - Night of Thunder - is here getting plenty of respect and looming large as the second place favourite. He is currently trading at a 3/1 price and that is a heck of a lot shorter than his 40/1 odds when he produced the Guineas shocker. He was beaten again by Kingman last time out at Ascot in the St James Palace Stakes. He is taking a massive step up in class here but has proven he can hang tough with quality runners and will be ready to tackle older contenders this time around.
War Command is priced right now at a solid 6/1 but he seems to have really gone off the boil after coming into the 2014 flat season as one of the buzz horses based on his two-year-old campaign that culminated with a sensational victory in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes. He has, so far, only been able to muster a 9/14 against the Guineas field when sent off at 8/1 and then he was a fourth place finisher in the St James Palace stakes finishing behind Kingman.
Godolphin’s True Story has plenty of potential but has, so far, only been able to muster up a listed victory so far this year. He took the step up to Group 2 level against a small field at York only to be undone by the Grey Gatsby when sent off as the odds-on favourite against that field. He failed to fire and, though he was slightly hampered, the stewards did not think it was enough to take him down.
His run in the Epsom Derby was over pretty much as soon as it started after he crashed into the stall coming out and was unable to really get himself in a position to be considered a genuine threat. He did finish the race pretty well so that might convince some punters that a cheeky bet on him might just do the trick.
True Story can be backed at 12/1.
Other notables currently in the mix include Kingston Hill at a decent price of 8/1 that could rise based on some news we hear during the build up. Another interesting contender, Dank, lines up for this one and is commanding a 16/1 price tag. Sheikh Hamdan saddles up one of the better contenders in his yard with Mukhadram.
Just The Judge looks to be a very fascinating e/w selection here with a 50/1 price and every chance of proving the critics wrong.
