2014 King George VI Chase Ante Post Tips PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on December 10, 2014 19:23 GMTOne of the biggest features of the holiday season is the Boxing Day edition of racing at Kempton as we see the annual running of the King George VI Chase. This year’s iteration looks to have a number of talented runners set to contest the race and there are a good selection of strong favourites, each-way squeaks and outside fancies with some great prices on offer if you reckon a specific contender has a better chance than the others at handling this tough right-handed 3m chase.

This race is often dictated by the fact that a few well-regarded contenders go into the race with a high-profile November win to their credits and this year we have Silviniaco Conti leading the ante post market following his win in the respected Grade 1 Betfair Chase at Newbury after besting a very accomplished field that included the likes of Menorah, Dynaste and betting favourite Cue Card.
He put in a great shift that day, winning the race for the second time in his career and now he’s looking to turn this race into his second King George on the bounce after triumphing over a few of the other contenders running in this race - including the likes of Cue Card, Al Ferof, Dynaste and Long Run.
It turned out to be a three and a half length margin on the day and he delivered well for punters at a 7/2 price tag after only finishing a tame third in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.
As it currently stands, punters will find Silviniaco Conti priced anywhere from 5/2 to 3/1 with most major bookmakers.
The real one to watch here who appears to be the solid second choice is Champagne Fever who didn’t get the season off to a great start in his seasonal debut but was then able to follow it up with a very thorough performance in the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase. He was sent off for the race at a slim 8/11 but he also knows a thing or two about winning in England as he has won races at Cheltenham on both occasions when he ventured across the border from Ireland. He was able to capture the 2012 Champion Bumper and then last year’s iteration of the Supreme Novices Hurdle.
