2014 King George VI Chase Ante Post Tips PT 2

While some might think that his 4/1 price is a bit short for things right now, you’ll notice that a few books are taking him right down to 7/2 as we get closer to the race and it looks like he will be enjoying the bulk of the Irish money coming in from those Christmas stockings and discreet envelopes.

What makes things very interesting is the fact that Champagne Fever runs his races very similarly to Silviniaco Conti and you wonder whether the two of them might get in each others way at some point or whether it will lead them to potentially alter their tactics in how they approach the race itself. There remains every chance that Champagne Fever might have a trick or two up his sleeve as Silviniaco Conti’s connections already know how to win this one and are unlikely to deviate.

It’s always an interesting proposition when you have relatively well-fancied horses coming into the race and using the King George as their seasonal debuts and this year it’s Simonsig filling that role. He was able to triumph at Kempton in 2012 during the Christmas season but only in the Grade 2 williamhill.com Novices’ Chase. He’s been off since scoring at Cheltenham in 2013 in the Arkle and there will be plenty expected of him here.

He had previously gone off as the betting favourite for his last seven races and some were at prices as short as 2/9 and 1/6. Even in the Arkle at Cheltenham he went off at a slim 8/15 against a tough Arkle field. What’s more impressive is the fact that in his only ever run at Kempton in the aforementioned race, he was able to triumph by a full 35 lengths over a harder field than it looked.

There is a huge price variance on Simonsig in the ante post markets for the King George VI Chase and you’ll find him anywhere from 5/1 with some books all the way up to 10/1 with others.
