2015 2000 Guineas Betting Preview PT 2

Faydhan is the closest we have right now to a co-challenger with the John Gosden-trained colt being quite the opposite of Gleneagles with only the single run under his belt so far. While it wasn’t a super high-class race or anything, he was able to get the better of a ten-strong Haydock maiden race by a six length margin. That’s something to write home about and if the talented colt has come on in size and mental maturity then the 10/1 listing being bandied about on him right now could look like some pretty good value.

While we already know that Gleneagles can win, that works against him a bit as this horse here seems to have significant more opportunity for upside. It was only a 6f victory so we still need to see how he deals with the extra two panels but his breeding - War Front out of a Speightstown mare - suggests that he will get anywhere between 8-12 furlongs.

Ivawood is the third choice but not by a very big margin as there are a number of contenders sniffing around the 10/1 - 14/1 price range and offering up plenty of real value as well. He was denied by a nose in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket back in mid-October when he tangled with Charming Thought. He was sent off on the day at a slim 1/2 margin in the six horse race and that will have been a real disappointment for punters.

Prior to that, he took a pair of Group 2 contests - one at Goodwood and the other at Newmarket - and he looked pretty good doing it. He won both by a few length margins and he also conquered his first race at Sandown last June. Expect him to loom as a good choice in a crowded field.

Aidan O’Brien also has another top contender in Ol’ Man River who comes into the 2000 Guineas reckoning on the back of two victories last year at the Curragh - both inside a month’s time. He took a really nice maiden race where he defeated 17 other contenders and was still sent off at an 11/10 margin. He won by three quarters of a length and then came back about four weeks later to win a Grade 2 race by nearly three lengths at a 1/2 margin.
