- By A.J. Ryder on March 15, 2015 18:05 GMTHe is getting some momentum on the ante post markets as well with most books listing him around 12/1 but a few having recently clipped him into 8/1 as a good volume of ante post money appears to be coming in on the O’Brien trainees.

Another O’Brien contender, Highland Reel, looks to be a fascinating contender and he wasn’t able to win his first time out but then did it in style in his second race where he bested a field of nine by a whopping twelve length margin. Ultimately, that’s how you want an 8/15 favourite to run in a maiden race.
You’ll find Highland Reel trading anywhere around 9/1 all the way up to 12/1 depending on whom you’re wagering with.
In a seemingly endless parade of Aidan O’Brien-trained contenders we now move on to another with John F Kennedy - a talented son of Galileo out of a Danehill mare. Campaigned exclusively in Ireland, he missed first time out but then came back and won a nice maiden at the Curragh against a field of twelve. Following that up, he ran at Leopardstown in the Group 3 John Deere Juvenile Turf Stakes and won it relatively easily by a three length margin.
He was sent off on the day at a 4/7 margin and didn’t disappoint punters at all - he remains one of the lower profile entries despite having three races under his belt so far. Keep your eye open for him and see what happens with his price as we get closer to the race. His odds vary fairly significantly right now with some books pricing him all the way down at 8/1 and others listing him at a full 16/1 margin.
Roger Varian’s Belardo is the last one that really trades in that mid-teens range and most of us will remember him for his smashing victory in the Dubai Dewhurst at Newmarket last October. He was able to get the better of a strong six-horse field and win at a 10/1 margin. Prior to that he was well-beaten in a Doncaster Group 2. His Dewhurst victory definitely shows that he’s a contender and if he progressed over the winter season he will be a big feather in the cap of Godolphin.
