This year it’s Golden Horn’s turn to make an attempt to route the Americans as Europeans have had plenty of luck on turf races in recent years with dominating wins by Goldikova and St Nicholas Abbey in recent years.
Having won the Arc and vanquished Treve’s attempt to three-peat the famous flat contest, Golden Horn now looms as a heavy odds-on favourite with European bookmakers listing him around a 4/7 margin. This is interesting because many were offering 1/3 non-runner no-bet just two weeks ago after he managed to win the Arc and noise was made about a stateside trip.
Most bookmakers continue to list Golden Horn at a slim 1/2 margin with the American punters likely to send him off at a higher price on the tote board that day. European runners are always powerfully backed on European books so those with access to the American tote pools will do well to have a bash on Golden Horn in the win-only pools on Breeders’ Cup Saturday.
He is up against some talented contenders though and the Derby/Arc winner will be tangling with the O’Brien-trained Found as one of his chief competitors in this race with a majority of bookmakers listing him around a 7/2 margin with some going as high as 4/1 right now.
