2015 Champions Stakes Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on September 21, 2015 17:51 GMTNow that we are only about a month away from the 2015 Champions Day card at Ascot, we are beginning to get a lot more of a firmer context about how we can expect the feature race to pan out. The connections of Gleneagles confirmed that he would be heading that way today and the bookmakers responded with a customary drop in price with a number of books going all the way down to an 8/1 margin for him despite the fact that he can still be spotted in a few diferrent places at 10/1 for the time being.

The 1m2f contest will play host to a number of talented contenders this year and with Gleneagles unable to get a run in lately because of unsuitable ground, you have to appreciate that he will be coming up against some really talented selections here such as break-out sensation Golden Horn as well as the likes of Free Eagle and Godolphin's upstart entry Jack Hobbs – who is getting considerable support for his Champions Stakes attempt.
The way the ante post market is looking right now we have nearly ten different contenders who are all listed by at least one bookmaker at a single digit price. This means that we will very likely have a large field for this contest and plenty vying to bring home the big money once they arrive at the finish line first.
While we are still unsure where a number of these contenders are going the fact remains that this could be a banner year for the Champions Stakes in terms of many of the top Group 1 winners from the flat season returning to action for one final bid this season to secure an even more successful season of racing.
Golden Horn is obviously the big star coming out of this season having racked up so many impressive victories this season only to be finally undone late by the likes of Arabian Queen who came out of nowhere to capture the Juddmonte International. He proved that it was likely just a one-off because Golden Horn was able to come back and win the Irish Champion Stakes with relative ease in his next effort. Look for him anywhere between 4/1 and a 5/2 margin.
