2015 Cheltenham Festival Wednesday Preview PT 1
- By A.J. It was very nearly a perfect day for the punters - with the bookmakers on the cusp of their biggest defeat ever as an industry - before Annie Power blundered at the last fence and sending Ruby Walsh (and accumulator wagers everywhere) to the ground. She had simply been travelling so well and it appeared as though just a single solitary fence stood between her and the glory that she so deserved.
That defeat kept the bookmakers afloat and not having to pay out on the huge amount of four-folds on the days bankers - Faugheen, Douvan and Un De Sceaux - all of whom were able to pull off victories and look very good doing it. Annie Power was just about to do the same thing herself when (as often happens in this sport) the unthinkable happened.
Looking ahead to the Wednesday action, we have several more good-looking races set to unfold on Ladies Day and the better ones are in the opening portion of the card as usual.
The opening contest of the day is the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle and this one is often a very tricky race to wager on ante post because many of the contenders in this one boast entries to at least two or three races - sometimes even four of them.
