2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. The three mile chasing division is a bit weaker right now than it has been over the last few years but that lack of overall depth shouldn’t take away from the pure class of some of these contenders.

The big story at Kempton, obviously, was Silviniaco Conti’s emphatic frontrunning victory against a relatively talented field. There were plenty of punters out there trying to beat Paul Nicholls widely-touted charge but they were ultimately unable to do so as he powered home, making all from the very start.
It wasn’t so much the victory (which was expected - he was sent off around 15/8) but it was the manner of the victory that really rammed home the fact that this is a very serious contender and a genuine force to be reckoned with. Expect him to kick on once he gets to the festival but rest assured that he is unlikely to race until then.
With such a great performance under his belt it’s relatively obvious that Silviniaco Conti is now going to see his price drop for Cheltenham but the fact remains that he was already considered an outright favourite. The odds right now are especially interesting with a few books still refusing to trim his price.
Punters will find Silvinaco Conti available anywhere from as low as 5/2 with Ladbrokes all the way up to a hefty 7/1 with William Hill. The prices are all over the place and anybody who genuinely fancies their chances here will do well to lump on at the aforementioned price of 7s with Hills.
There is a very interesting face-off set to happen at Leopardstown with Lord Windermere facing off against 2013 Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth. It looks as though Bobs Worth is just getting the edge in the betting markets right now and there is lots to like about his ability but he just hasn’t looked up to his old self as of late. He has been out three times so far this season and has only one a single time - finishing off the board in the other two attempts.
