2015 Darley July Cup Betting Preview PT 2

He’s won Group 1, 2 and 3 races and delivered a nice payout for the punters who backed him on that day at Royal Ascot with a hefty 10/1 payout in that deep field of 18 contenders.

Looking at Muhaarar’s formline, you’ll noticed that in his Group 3 victory at Newbury on his seasonal debut, he was bumped at the start yet still came back to win by a nose at a price of 16/1. This shows that he knows how to win and can overcome adversity in races against decent competition.

He finished third in the Middle Park Stakes last season and looks to be a exciting colt who will be emerging in the late summer months with an eye on the big races looming in the fall. The bookmakers have him priced a bit uniformly than Brazen Beau and you’ll find him trading at 9/4 pretty much everywhere though there are a few books who have taken him into 2/1.

Things get a little bit murky shorter after that though as the odds take a considerable jump up to the 10/1 to 16/1 range with about six or seven really good and recognizable contenders lining up to take their shot at the top pairing here. Expect a few of them not to actually make the race as we are still working off fields prior to the declaration but the ante post market really is starting to heat up and you can expect plenty of interesting permutations once we get into an actual market.

Out of them all, Muthmir is probably the shortest average price from the lot with anything from 10/1 up to 14/1 depending on whom you’re wagering with. He finished a very credible third in the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot this year which will have disappointed those who backed him to win at 3/1 but he was only about half a length off the victory and it served as a credible run coming into this race.

It’s tough to navigate the finish of the King’s Stand with such a larger field only going a couple of furlongs. Prior that, you might want to look at the Chantilly race where he captured a Group 2 contest two-back as a better reference for what he’s going to try to do here.
