2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes PT 1

The big feature contest on the final day of the 2015 Royal Ascot meeting is the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, which runs at exactly 4:20 local and features some of the most exciting sprinters in the world contesting this 6f distance. There is a lot of money to be won here and it will also be a major declaration for any of these contenders to take this famous Group 1 contest as it sets a tone for the rest of the big meetings that will unfold through the summer months.

The betting choice coming into this race is the extremely talented Australian shipper Brazen Beau, who has been rattling off a fairly steady succession of Group level victories in his native land - the most recent of which was the Lexus Newmarket Handicap, which he took by nearly three lengths when sent off at a listing of 9/2. He’s done the bulk of his racing at Flemington and has taken two from his last three - the only blip coming against Lankan Rupee, who was favoured to win the contest anyway. This is the first overseas attempt for the three-year-old bay colt by I Am Invincible, who is trained by Chris Waller.

Right now the price is hovering around a 10/3 margin and it will be interesting to see how that all fluctuates throughout the build up to the race itself. Overnight prices should drop once the money comes the next morning as there aren’t any big changes expected to happen in the ground in the interim.

There are always question marks about horses from overseas shipping to Ascot but we’ve seen some good Aussie runners win the past couple of years so it’s hard to discount his chances entirely - the punters seem to keep coming for him and you can expect the price to drop.

This is a fact that will be exacerbated if he makes a really nice pre-race appearance as that has proven to be a decent little handicapping angle throughout the meeting so far as horses sweating up badly have tended to under-perform.
