2015 Hong Kong Cup Betting Preview PT 1

There is plenty of excitement in store as the flat season has wound down in many parts of the world but is just picking up its pace over in the far east as Hong Kong and Japan are all set to host some big races in the next couple of weeks. One of the most prominent is definitely the Hong Kong Cup with plenty of international superstars lining up to tackle this race.

It appears to be another case of many of the usual suspects showing up here at Sha Tin on the big day for this 1m2f classic distance contest. Expect plenty of interest and support from both the locals and the international punters for Designs On Rome, who conquered the race last year but has been off the track since last April. 

Designs on Rome was able to beat out Military Attack by a short head last year in another renewal of the excellent battle the two have been playing out over the past few months at the Sha Tin surface. He shipped west to Dubai only to finish fourth to Dolniya in the Dubai Sheema Classic. 

Expect plenty of punters to be going against him though as the bookmakers have floated an ante post price of around 3/1 or 5/2 for Designs on Rome to win the 2015 Hong Kong Cup. He has not looked up to his usual self in recent races and the five-year-old gelding by Holy Roman Emperor has plenty of opportunity to be beaten by a better horse with more upside. 

Military Attack trades as his chief rival right now but the simple fact is that Military Attack hasn’t won a race since last October - it’s been six defeats on the trot for him with his most recent coming on his seasonal debut at Sha Tin to Contentment when he was a tame third in a listed effort.
