2015 Investec Derby Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on May 31, 2015 17:23 GMTNow that we are only a single week out from the 2015 Investec Derby, the ante post market is really starting to heat up as punters jockey for position to find the best value ahead of the second Classic of the English flat season. Gleneagles gave punters a day to remember as he romped home at Newmarket in the 2000 Guineas when the betting public sent him out of the gate as the significant favourite.

While the Coolmore team have been up front with the fact that he’s likely to be best at a mile they have decided to call the audible and enter him in the 1m4f contest at Epsom on June 6th with an eye towards history. One can only imagine they would go for the St Leger if he was actually able to pull off the victory here but it remains to be seen whether he really is that good over a mile.
Having pulled off a unique double by also landing the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh last week, Gleneagles will be taking a good amount of popular money and the bookmakers have him priced anywhere from about 4/1 to 7/1. Since the confirmation came in you can expect the price to drop as we get closer and closer to the race itself.
The betting choice at the moment appears to be the A E Oppenheimer-owned Golden Horn, who can be backed as low as 7/4 right now with most major bookmakers. The undefeated colt has three runs under his belt and was last seen at York winning the Group 2 Dante Stakes when sent off at a 4/1 margin. He got the better of some talented contenders that day and this will be his third effort of the season - indicating that there is still plenty more left in the tank and this is clearly the race that he has been pointed at for some time.
It wasn’t so much his victory at York but the manner of his victory that really got pulses racing as he romped home readily and nearly beat out the respected Jack Hobbs by a three length margin.
