2015 Investec Derby Betting Preview PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on May 31, 2015 17:24 GMTAnother one to keep your eyes on as we get closer to the Epsom Derby is the Sheikh Hamdan-owned Zawraq who enters off a single prep race this season - a winning effort in a listed contest at Leopardstown in the 2000 Guineas Trial Stakes. The son of Shamardal is out of a Sadler’s Wells mare and looms as an interesting contender here though the price may be short for those who are looking for a horse has already won some good contests and beaten rivals at the top level.

Right now you can find Zawraq as high as a 5/1 margin and that is likely to rise as we get closer to the race and once Gleneagles becomes more considered in the overall betting markets early this week.
Godolphin line up Jack Hobbs, who was defeated last time out by the aforementioned Golden Horn. All this horse has really done, aside from finishing second in that Group 2 contest as the 2/1 favourite, was win a Class 3 handicap at Sandown in his seasonal debut and beat out a relatively forgettable group of all weather maidens at Wolverhampton a few days before New Years’ Eve.
The son of Halling is looming right now as the third choice in the Epsom Derby ante post market so a 7/1 listing should hold there or thereabouts.
The third place finisher in the Dante Stakes was none other than Racing Post Trophy winner Elm Park who mustered up a decent seasonal debut but still finished a good six lengths off the likes of Golden Horn. He was sent off on the day as the 7/2 second favourite but just couldn’t get it done on debut. He has won good races in the past and ranks as one of the winningest entries in the race aside from Gleneagles so if he can run back towards anything resembling that two year old form then he could be dangerous.
As it currently stands, punters will find Elm Park reigning as a decent 13/2 or 7/1 shout depending on whom you’re betting with. It will be interesting to watch his price fluctuate as we get closer to the race itself. If he makes a really nice pre-race appearance than you can expect him to be popular!
