While he has been up against some real talent this year in Golden Horn it looks like he’s finally going to get the chance to express himself at Group 1 level.
Highland Reel has been confirmed with Ryan Moore and that has prompted a price drop from about 7/1 down to 5/1 with a great second place finish in the high-priced Prix Du Jockey Club at Chantilly. He was only a length and a half behind New Bay and will be coming into this race with a lot of momentum here.
The punters seem to be convinced that he is the likely spoiler here for Jack Hobbs, who has run well but has failed to inspire a certain portion of the racing public. Perhaps he just hasn’t been able to demonstrate his winning attitude lately and that’s why he seems tepid despite being odds-on.
The other Aidan O’Brien contender Giovanni Canaletto, was fourth in the Epsom Derby and already boasts a run over the Curragh surface when he was just beaten by Curvy in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes back in late May. This is one of those Coolmore entries you haven’t heard a huge amount about but the punters seem to think he has a chance in the ante post market anyway with a decent 7/1 price about him right now.
Storm The Stars, also third in the Epsom Derby returns here and this one looks to be the textbook definition of a there-or-thereabouts type. He’s rated on a 114 right now and definitely belongs here. It’s also worth noting that he hasn’t finished outside of the top three since winning his maiden at Leicester back in late April.
He’s had three races since and his rapid progression up the rankings could be made apparent here with a good chance of hitting the board at a solid 8/1.
