2015 Juddmonte International Stakes Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on August 18, 2015 15:44 GMTOne of the biggest flat racing clashes in recent memory looks set to unfold as an exciting field is assembling at York this Wednesday for the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes. While many of the entrants aren’t exactly in desperate pursuit of an automatic entry into the Champions Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day at the end of the flat season, the bragging rights and stud fee implications could be in full effect as the 2000 Guineas winner and Derby winner tangle amongst a group of talented older contenders.
Undefeated Golden Horn has been the biggest story of the season this year as he has been able to put away virtually any horse that has come after him so far in his career and he’s forged an excellent relationship with Frankie Dettori.
Adding to the credible claims of the Cape Cross colt is an impressive victory at York last season as they put away Jack Hobbs - who also finished second to him in the Epsom Derby just a couple of weeks later.
Golden Horn had only a single run at 2 - a winning race where he headed out none other than Storm The Stars. After that he’s been able to rattle off four successive victories in a row to keep his impressive unbeaten run going.
The bookmakers have Golden Horn floated as the distinct odds-on favourite for this big contest and you’ll find him trading at an 8/11 margin right now with most books going straight-up 4/6 on him.
Gleneagles, the 2000 Guineas winner for Aidan O’Brien, looks to be the clear second choice here and most bookmakers have him floating at or around 3/1 with some going up to 10/3 as he looks to build on his impressive Group 1 score at Royal Ascot in the St James Palace Stakes.
