2015 Juddmonte International Stakes Betting Preview PT 2

While the field that he faced off against (only four other competitors) didn’t really bely a proper Group 1 at Ascot, he was still able to dispose of his competition very easily and rewarded punters with his 8/15 margin. The dual Guineas and Irish Guineas winner will be able to make a huge statement if he is able to actually get the better of Golden Horn as this would potentially etch this into one of the best three-year-old rivalries to emerge in flat racing for quite some time.

The key spoiler here really looks to be fan-favourite The Grey Gatsby as the hard-knocking Mastercraftsman colt seeks to make his first breakthrough of the year here after coming so close so many times. He’s already been turned back by Golden Horn at Sandown last time out when sent off as the 7/2 second choice with Jamie Spencer in the irons.

The really disappointing moment for him was the heartbreaking loss to Free Eagle at Royal Ascot when he very nearly got there and many thought he legitimately did. But he was undone by a short head. He proved that his three-year-old campaign was definitely no fluke as he was able to finish a close second to well-respected Solow in the Dubai Turf on the undercard of Dubai World Cup Day.

Right now the bookmakers seem to be doing some decent business on the Kevin Ryan-trained contender. You can lock him in anywhere between 8/1 all the way up to a 12/1 margin.

The other outside variable here is the Juddmonte-trained spoiler Time Test who is getting a distinct edge on The Grey Gatsby with many books listing him at a 5/1 margin despite his biggest score so far only being a Group 3 contest. What might really work against him is the fact that he won’t have any of his previous partners in Frankie Dettori or Ryan Moore in the irons for this one. He looks like he could surprise but it would really take something special - and likely a mistake from one of the top two - in order for him to really factor into the equation.
