This time along it’s no different with the sensational Annie Power looming as one of the biggest bankers of the entire Cheltenham Festival. Last time her connections were punished for opting for the harder road in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle as she was bested by More Of That.
While she definitely boasts a co-entry for that race it really appears as though you can count on her to run in the Mares Hurdle as she has been backed all the way down to a very short 4/6 price tag with most major bookmakers against her 4/1 odds right now for the World Hurdle option.
The only blemish on her entire career record was that second place finish by a mere length and a half last year. She was sent off as the 11/8 favourite but just couldn’t muster up enough when it counted.
It’s interesting that she will come into the race without a single prep run under her belt this year - literally coming in using the mares hurdle as her seasonal debut. One assumes that they have eyes on efforts at Aintree and Punchestown - one also wonders whether they might opt for some of the big money hurdles contests run in America during the year - similar to Hunt Ball.
Aside from Annie Power, who looms over this field like a colossus at the moment, Glens Melody is considered to be the other strong contender here - ready to pounce on any opportunity offered up by Annie Power should she fail to respond on the day or make some sort of blunder.
