2015 Pacific Classic Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on August 22, 2015 20:50 GMTThe marquee race of the Del Mar meeting is set to unfold today as one of the more interesting iterations in a while anchors a very impressive card at the San Diego track where the turf meets the surf. With American Pharoah stabled at Del Mar but likely to opt for the Travers Stakes or another big race in the near-term future, the favourites position falls to the top mare on the west coast - multiple Breeders’ Cup winner Beholder.

The superstar mare, trained by Richard Mandella and piloted by Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, looms large in her attempt to become the first female to win this coveted race.
While the west coast is no real stranger to superstar mares, the legendary Zenyatta never actually attempted the Pacific Classic despite the race looking like it would probably be meat and drink for the most famous daughter of Street Cry. The punters have shown up for Beholder early on but there are a few other interesting contenders in the mix here with popular West Coast trainer Bob Baffert coming in with a pair of impressive chances here.
With Beholder trading as the betting favourite anywhere form 9/4 fixed all the way down to a 7/4 margin, many will be looking for a different chance to take on this short-priced female favourite.
The odds are going to be a little different on-course than they are with the UK and European bookmakers but the opportunity to play between the two of them could wind up making things a bit more interesting as we go forward as the odds might open up some live clues once the market begins.
