As always there are a few foreign invaders coming in for this one with the American contenders looking increasingly prominent. Not only is Royal Ascot staple Wesley Ward returning with a large selection of challengers, we also have the presence of almost-Triple Crown winner California Chrome set to contest the 1m4f Prince of Wales Stakes against some of the finest flat horses on the planet.
Things get underwear on June 16th with the much-anticipated Queen Anne Stakes, the King’s Stand Stakes and the St James Palace Stakes. All of these are Group 1 contests and there are still a couple other interesting races that will unfold afterwards.
Able Friend is considered to be the best horse in the world and he’ll be running in the opening race of the opening day as the widely-vaunted Hong Kong based champion teams up with his regular jockey Joao Moreira. They come into the race with a 9/4 listing and that looks pretty good considering he’s been able to topple the competition in each of his last six efforts.
It’s worth remembering that each of those victories came at his home base of Sha Tin racecourse. He’s run there in every single race but his first two after he scored at Wyong after losing out at Rosehill first out.
