2015 Royal Ascot Day Two Betting Preview PT 2
- By A.J. Ryder on June 16, 2015 15:09 GMTThis is the only time he has ever been sent off at over even money so there might be a few punters here who think he’s got what it takes to genuinely get the job done here for the Smith/Magnier/Tabor triumverate.
American contender Luck Of The Kitten will be lining up for Ascot specialist Wesley Ward as the homebred by Ken & Sarah Ramsey looks to get himself back on track and poised for a big performance here. He hasn’t won since taking a 2yo allowance race last year at Santa Anita and it should also be noted that he finished second to the extremely talented Hootenanny in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
The heavy favourite though appears to be Ivawood who will get Richard Hughes in the irons once again. He has finished third place in every single attempt this year though it should be noted that two of those came against Gleneagles in the 2000 Guineas and the Irish 2000 Guineas. He was far from first choice on both of those days but still managed to acquit himself fairly well.
With a listing hovering around a 6/4 margin with most major bookmakers you can expect him to be a relatively popular “bet against” for many punters in the absence of a recent victory.
The second race of the day is the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes and we’ve got another very deep field to contend with here. You can expect a full 23 runners to contest this 5f dash and it is one of the biggest lottery races for the entire week of racing. When you consider that there are very few opportunities to recover from a bad start in a race that unfolds so quickly, you can do well with a quality upstart who gets a good post position and breaks properly.
The current betting favourite right now is Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum’s contender Besharah who is currently undefeated and comes in off a nice score at Windsor in a Class 4 contest. While this is a step up in grade, we clearly have not seen the bottom of this young filly and she also boasts her maiden win over the Ascot surface so is a rare course and distance winner for this one.
