2015 RSA Chase Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on February 25, 2015 20:10 GMTThe RSA Chase is looking extremely competitive at this year’s Cheltenham Festival but, as usual, it becomes a tough ante post until the final declarations are made thanks to the huge amount of cross entries - primarily pointed towards the JLT Novices as well. There are still plenty of good prices out there and you can bank on a number of the shorter odds contenders heading to the RSA.

The outright favourites position seems to be a tough one as the likes of Coneygree, Don Poli and Kings Palace are all battling it out to be named the shortest priced contender. The prices vary significantly from book to book and you’ll find some of them trading at 3/1 or 5/1 depending on whom you’re wagering with. Of the three, Coneygree has the largest variance with some books listing him at 3/1 and others offering him up at an 11/2 price tag.
Coneygree has a cross entry for the Gold Cup but he’s 14/1 there so you can expect him to tackle this race instead. He’s had a solid season - capturing a Grade 1 and a pair of Grade 2’s - making him undefeated for the season so far. It’s the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase from Boxing Day that really catches the eye though as he romped home by a massive 40 length margin when sent off at a 10/3 price - he was a real feather in the cap for punters who backed him that day.
He followed that one up with a 7 length victory over the talented Houblon Des Obeaux at Newbury in early February. He looked really good that day and he also boasts a pair of victories at Cheltenham from back in 2012 so you know that he can handle the course.
Kings Palace also has gone three from three this season but the races haven’t been quite as prestigious as Coneygree with a pair of Class 2’s and a Class 3 to his credit this season. He was extremely short for all of those races - going off as the favourite each time.
