2015 Supreme Novices Hurdle Betting Preview PT 1
- By A.J. Ryder on February 17, 2015 18:45 GMTThe big opening of the 2015 Cheltenham Festival will see one of the most fascinating iterations of the Supreme Novices for the past few years. While there is no real stand-out star in this race in 2015, that’s actually a pretty good thing as the extremely over bet favourite meme can be tiresome after a while and it can really dampen the enthusiasm in the crowd when a major favourite gets beaten - as they often tend to - in a race of this magnitude with horses that are still developing in their careers racing over hurdles.

This time around, we have a match-up between two talented stars and some really solid-looking contenders looming in the each-way corridor, ready to scoop up the glory if any of the top two fail to take advantage of their opportunities.
Douvan is currently the betting choice, best priced at 7/4, and also co-entered for the Neptune Novices’ but he’s trading at 8/1 there and is obviously extremely likely to opt for the Supreme.
Douvan comes into the race fresh off an impressive victory at Punchestown in the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle. He had Ruby Walsh up in the irons that day and looked good getting the job done when sent off as the 1/3 favourite. He also took a hurdle race at Gowran Park back in November, his first attempt since coming over from France after his flat career.
Where Douvan is a relatively unknown quantity except for that pair of races in Ireland, L’Ami Serge is a nice contrast as he’s raced three times on British Shores but has a number of good reference races from Auteil to work with - giving punters a better portrait of his consistency.
