2015 Supreme Novices Hurdle Betting Update PT 1

There have been a slew of different contenders emerging into the reckoning for the upcoming Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the 2015 Cheltenham Festival. There appears to be, in lieu of the usual over-hyped odds-on selection, that we have a pair of talented young jumpers duelling it out for the title of outright betting favourite.

As it currently stands, punters will find Willy Mullins’ Douvan sitting as the betting favourite for the festival opener. He emerged onto the scene following a victory at Gowran Park when he defeated a talented field of eight in a four-year-old novice hurdle by a whopping twelve length margin when sent off as the 8/15 favourite.

He also boasts an entry to the Neptune but is firmly pointed at the Supreme Novices’ with bookmakers pricing him around 4/1 or 5/1 for festival glory.

His chief rival is the emerging talent of L’Ami Serge who comes out of Nicky Henderson’s yard and looms as a major force to eb reckoned with following his gutsy victory at the weekend in the Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown. Though there were only three other contenders in the race, he deployed a stalking trip in a tricky surface in a race that was probably more difficult than it looked on paper.

It wasn’t so much the victory after all of that, but the manner of the victory, that will be the telling aspect going forward. When combined with the convincing seven length victory at Ascot from mid-December, you get the feeling that this horse is absolutely for real. Expect him to be in cracking form for a festival run. You’ll find him anywhere around a 5/1 margin with most major bookmakers.

The odds then take a pretty considerable jump to around 10/1 for the remainder of the field and there are plenty in here who have a lot of things going for them in the grand scheme of things. Some really nice each-way shouts permeate this market and, particularly for those who have another run in their schedule prior to the festival, value awaits if you can find the right market movers right now.

Alvisio Ville is a French-bred five-year-old whose claim to fame is a maiden hurdle win at Leopardstown against a field of twelve solid challengers. He was sent off on the day at a 1/2 margin and delivered for punters by a five and a half length margin.
