It’s always important to take a look at the other entries for the major rivals here in order to get your ante post wagers down in the right way. This is a tricky time of year for many ante post punters since the prices aren’t a huge amount shorter than what they will be once the festival actually kicks off and there is still plenty of things that could happen to a lot of the key contenders to make things pear-shaped late on.
Douvan is obviously the big story coming into the race and this Irish contender is trading as low as a 2/5 margin with most major bookmakers.
He is undefeated save a loss in his first race over hurdles back in mid-2014. The winner of last year’s Supreme Novices Hurdle, he has been out three times this season and has absolutely thrashed the competition at short odds winning by a combined total of over 40 lengths across the three years.
He is expected to deploy his typical frontrunning style under Ruby Walsh and you can bank on him being a key selection amongst a lot of the opening day accumulator tickets for the festival.
The first two races - in particular the Supreme Novices Hurdle are continually overbet so you can bank on our ability to kick on and potentially do something a bit different here.
