There is a lot to like about the Gold Cup this year and we have a very tough five way battle for the favourites position with a number of talented contenders all in the mix at very comparable prices.
Over the past couple of weeks the big difference has been Vautour, Don Cossack and Djakadam pulling away slightly as they drop into the 9/2 range from the 6/1 prices where you’ll find Cue Card and Don Poli, who are just a step or two behind them.
Vautour is the only contender who has a bookmaker listing him at a 7/2 margin for the Gold Cup and he enters the race likely since finishing second to Cue Card at Kempton in the King George on Boxing Day and he will be teaming up with Ruby Walsh once again to have a tilt at the big contest at Cheltenham.
He has had plenty of success coming up the hill at Cheltenham and you can expect him to be right in the mix for the Cheltenham Gold Cup this year as he has done well over proper fences. He took the JLT Novices Chase last year and took the Supreme Novices the year before. Everyr time he has lined up at Cheltenham he hasn’t lost and that’s why you’re going to see the Willy Mullins-trained charge gaining even more steam as we get closer and closer to the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
